We Got Some Fancy New Art for "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"

by N/A, 9 years ago | 3 min read

A picture casts a thousand spells.

Magic Books harry potter

Everyone knows a post-Harry Potter world is basically a godforsaken wasteland, littered with mediocre non-Hogwarts novels.

See Hank Green's "This Is Not Harry Potter" for a perfect summation of how this feels.

And we've been RIDICULOUSLY bored waiting for the highly-anticipated "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," sure to be a total masterpiece.

Thank God our magical queen JK Rowling has tided us over with Jim Kay's re-illustration of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."

We kneel in gratitude, like Daniel Radcliffe on this candle.

And jumped for joy like Hermione having her '80s movie makeover moment.

While the Mary Grandpre illustrations will always be our first true love, it's always nice to read a story through a new artistic lens.

Kay previously illustrated the new edition of "The Sorcerer's Stone" and it's delightful.

While the original artwork conveyed a lot about the magical world of wizards, Kay's artwork strips the character's of their magic in favor of showing raw personality.

HERE is the new "Chamber of Secrets" cover and oh boy, the Burrow! The flying car!

Fawkes the Phoenix looks quite dapper as well, though very different from the films. This version appears much more like a peacock and less like that scary vulture thing Warner Bros. gave us.

Oooh the little mandrake babies! They look so teensy and like they're made out of turnips.

Is that Hagrid crying? I'm not ready for this! I didn't ask for these emotions, Joanne.

There's still so many questions: What does Dobby look like? The Basilisk? Collin Creevey? THOMAS MARVOLO RIDDLE, PERHAPS?

Sadly, those questions won't be answered until the book comes out on Oct. 4. Until then, we can pray our Patron Saint Rowling releases more promo photos on Twitter.
