'Heathers' Is Officially Being Remade With An Unexpected Twist
Like 'Mean Girls,' but with a touch of murder. 🔪
'Heathers,' the cult 80s film about a catty crew of high school girls, is being remade into an anthology series.

However, it won't be a scene-for-scene recreation of the original.
This new version will feature "a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers," according to TV Land.

The original film, released in 1989, starred Winona Ryder as Veronica, an outcast who was welcomed into a popular clique of girls, all named Heather.
In the original version, the mean girls rule the school—and Veronica wants out of their clique.

She unwittingly becomes part of her unhinged boyfriend J.D.'s (played by Christian Slater) plan to kill some members of the popular crowd. They stage the deaths as suicides, causing an uproar throughout the community, before ultimately turning on each other.
The reboot will flip the script on the traditional high school hierarchy, putting the outcasts in command.

All of the original Heathers will be replaced with completely different characters. The three new ringleaders are a black lesbian; a gender-queer male, whose given name is Heath; and a girl who "has a body like Martha Dumptruck."
You should expect all of the campy drama and humor of the original, with characters that are more relatable to today's high schoolers.

This will be the third attempt at a reboot of the original film. We can't wait to see how it holds up against the classic!
