A Piglet Got Lost In The Blizzard. Here's The Story Of Its Recovery

by N/A, 9 years ago | 2 min read

Perry Smith was driving out in the blizzard with his son when he found an abandoned piglet, and their story is outrageously cute.

The Smith family of Hagerstown, Maryland was driving home from a ski trip when they spotted a lost little piglet on the side of the road.

It was around 10 at night, just after the massive blizzard that hit the east coast.

The piglet was in danger of freezing to death, so Perry Smith and his son picked up the piglet, bundled him in a sweatshirt, and brought him home.

Here, Perry Smith's daughter is cradling the newly-rescued little guy. Clearly, the weather was pretty brutal on him.

When the Smiths first brought the piglet–which they named Wee Wee–home with them, it took a full night of nursing until he began to recover.

Fact: swaddling a piglet like a baby is the best way to nurse a piglet. Warm baths, food, and a little TLC also help.

Before long, Wee Wee was full of energy.

He was running around, playing, and being generally cute, like a li'l piglet should be.

Wee Wee began eating a steady diet of bagels and bananas.
He even got his own crate and a nice blanket!

He's a very trusting little piglet. Which is good, because it looks like a very kind family took him in.

Wee Wee basically became a member of the family.

It looks like he acts pretty much like a dog, and that's very adorable.

Unfortunately, though, Wee Wee wasn't able to stay with the Smith family permanently.

The Smith's homeowners' association considers pigs to be livestock, and keeping livestock doesn't fly in their neighborhood.

There's a happy ending though: a nearby animal sanctuary agreed to take Wee Wee in.

Thankfully, the animal sanctuary won't send Wee Wee to market, so he's got a full life of doing pig stuff ahead of him!
