Earlier this month, after catching wind of a professor's email about a cockroach that no one would dispose of, a young enterprising student from Texas A&M decided to honor the critter with a formal resting place.

Her name was "Rosie," and she was a good roach.

By the next day, others who'd noticed Rosie's grave came to pay their respects. But it didn't stop here. Not even close...

Fortunately, Imgur user jimmyevil, and A&M student captured the progression of it all for the rest of us to enjoy.

As time went on, more and more students began leaving "keepsakes" at Rosie's grave.

Two days later and still, the tributes continued to pile up.

"There is a candle now and a little coffin for the carcass... And for the record, I had nothing to do with the genesis of this memorial," the initial emailing professor wrote.

And yes, someone even decided to make a miniature coffin and alter for the deceased roach.

Soon enough, catholic candles were added into the mix and Rosie's display became a full-blown memorial. But still, things didn't end there...

The Post-It on the wall reads, "You were always there to say hello to me in the morning, Rosie! We will miss you."

The sign above reads, "Rosie the Roach will be with us until Tuesday, December 14th when a celebration of her life will be conducted. Food and drinks will be served in the main office during the afternoon."

Less than two weeks after the original gravestone was placed, things had gotten seriously out of control.

"Out of control" in the best way possible. Some things Rosie's friends and admirers left her were: a sanitary towel, a cigarette, money - both domestic and foreign, a condom, a Snoopy plush, candy, and yes, even a joint, among other things.

So much so, that university officials - despite letting Rosie's memorial go on for so long - decided it was time to draw things to a close...

And at long last, the blessed Rosie was put to rest.

We're gonna miss you Rosie. You'll be a light in dark places for us all.
