Amy Schumer And Serena Williams Are Helping Women Feel Confident About Their Bodies

by N/A, 10 years ago | 4 min read

Say goodbye to supermodels and hello to these gorgeous, confident REAL women. Pirelli's 2016 calendar celebrates powerful women like Amy Schumer and Serena Williams embracing their real bodies - flaws and all - and it's spreading the most powerful body image message yet.

Just when you think Amy Schumer couldn't get any more awesome and inspiring, she goes and poses topless for the 2016 Pirelli calendar, showcasing her un-retouched body. You go, girl!

No retouching, no Photoshop, no nothing was used. Schumer fully embraced her natural body like a boss, after recently confessing positive body image has been a "struggle" her whole life.

And, to add to the wonderfulness of the calendar, tennis star Serena Williams also posed topless, showing off her ripped body. #YASS.

Like Schumer, Williams confidently flaunted her physique the way it really is. And it's absolutely stunning.

The photos were taken by famed portrait photographer, Annie Leibovitz. Pirelli approached Leibovitz, hoping to capture "distinguished women."

“When Pirelli approached me, they said they wanted to make a departure from the past. They suggested the idea of photographing distinguished women,” said Leibovitz. “After we agreed on that, the goal was to be very straightforward. I wanted the pictures to show the women exactly as they are, with no pretense.”

Yup, instead of featuring supermodels like years before, they photographed women like Yao Chen, the first Chinese UNHCR goodwill ambassador and Tavi Gevinson, famed blogger and style icon.
The calendar has received outpouring support from fellow celebs, like Demi Lovato, who praised the realness of the shoot.
And "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter, who has spoken out about body image before.
It's safe to say Sam Smith will be buying the calendar for his home.

Keep on being fabulous, ladies!
