This may be the strongest glass in the world.

Technology Science glass Japan Non-Premium

Japanese scientists from the University of Tokyo’s Institute of Industrial Science have created a type of hybrid glass which they claim is as strong as steel.

They recently published their findings in Scientific Reports. The level of  strength of the material is described as its ability to be "non-permanently deformed by external stress." The scientists working on the project call this measure the "elastic modulus."

The glass is made from aluminum oxide compounds, which are known for being extremely durable.

The compounds are second only to diamonds on the Moh’s scale of hardness.

“We are looking to commercialize the technique within five years,” assistant professor Atsunobu Masuno said.

This is good news for smartphone users who may not have to worry about dropping and cracking their phones anymore.
