1. There are lots of strange flavors.

A lot of the international flavors were quite unusual like Japan's Tuna Mayonnaise and Clam Chowder Doritos, Turkey's Yogurt and Mint Doritos and Belgium's Pure Paprika Doritos. 

2. The name means "little golden things."
3. The cheese flavors were reformulated in 1992.

The flavors of the nacho cheese seasoning was changed in 1992 to make the flavors stand out more. The change in seasoning resulted in an elimination of what's known as "Dorito breath."

After their release in 2012, more than 1 million tacos were sold every day.

The chips were made to be 15 percent thinner and 20 percent larger in 1994 and was said to be one of the most expensive redesigns in Frito-Lay history. 

9. The entire lineup took a while to develop.

Doritos first hit shelves in 1966. Taco-flavored Doritos were released two years later and the Nacho Cheese flavor came out in 1972. The beloved cool ranch flavor was released in 1986. 

10. The snack has an odd origin story.

Cooks at a Disneyland restaurant called Casa de Fritos were throwing out unused tortillas and a sales rep for Alex Foods suggested that they fry the tortilla into chips. Patrons loved the chips and they made it onto the permanent menu. When a Frito-Lay marketing exec visited the restaurant, they became the snacks we know and love.
