Watching 15,000 Dominos Tumble Is Nothing Short Of Hypnotic

Well, this is the most inspired I’ve felt in years.

Who knew watching a 15,000-piece domino structure intricately collapse upon itself was exactly what I needed today? I can say with complete sincerity: This entrancing video feels like a Tuesday gift, sent to me so as to say, “Shhhhh, Paige. Stop panicking about your dog’s diarrhea. No more worrying if you left the stove on. Shut up, brain. Just…w a t c h.” I don’t mean to sound like a stoner, but WOAH. I think I understand art now? I realize I’ve really built this up, but I stand by my zealous reaction. Don’t take my word for it—I sure as hell wouldn’t. Lily Hevesh, full-time domino artist (yes, really), spent 25 hours in 8 days building a colossal, triple spiral structure with 15,000 dominoes. But this wasn’t her first rodeo— not even close. In fact, this was only her third largest project. Hevesh designs breath-taking domino monuments out of what I’ve always considered a weird, lame game for kids who suffered through The Great Depression. Who knew they could be so cool? The talented artist creates setups for entertainment and commercial projects for ad agencies, brands, school and others seeking spectacular domino art. In addition to professional projects, Hevesh builds a new structure every week. She uploads a video of the creation and demise to her Youtube channel, Hevesh5, every Saturday at 1 p.m. (EST). With over 60,000 dominoes in her collection and 7 years of leisure-game architectural experience, there’s no saying what she’ll do next. Personally, I’d like to know if she could also find a way to make Jax interesting.
