This Computer Programmer's Animation Will Totally Mess With Your Head

Back in 2011, master programmer, Keegan McAllister, designed this hypnotically fascinating animation of an intricate, self-replacing series of patterns called a quasicrystal, or quasiperiodic crystal, that reveals different figures and shapes as the viewer blinks.

Quasicrystals were identified in 1982 by scientist Dan Shechtman (a discovery for which he received the 2011 Nobel Prize in Chemistry) and continually fill all available space, but are not translationally symmetrical.

In more understandable, layman terms, they're insanely trippy.
