Animal Poop Is Totally Gross, But Also Has Some Surprising Benefits To Consider
Everybody poops—and thank goodness, because these animals are really adding a lot with theirs!

Algae is a very important part of the oceanic ecosystem, even if it might not be our favorite part. And algae is able to sustain itself by taking in iron from whale poo! It's really a very circle of life situation, because algae is actually eaten by krill, which are then eaten by whales...Â
The poop from these animals ends up providing nutrients to the pitcher plant in the Nepenthes genus...so ultimately, the animals are gardening every time they poo!

It may sound a little horrifying to us humans, but rabbits/capybara produce two kinds of poop—dry pellets along with soft cecotropes—and they actually eat the latter. In a way this makes them extremely resourceful creatures...and very self-sustaining!Â

Wombats poop little cubes and them use them as fences to mark their territory from other wombats—you can't make this stuff up!

When the wetlands in Brazil, which is where Pacu are from, floods each year, the fish takes advantage of all the food available, like all the fruit, full of seeds and pulp. Then the fish swims around and poops out little gifts to the ecosystem—seeds from the very fruit the fish eat!

Birds can't sweat, but these birds just let their poo roll down their own legs, which Ornithologists believe accomplishes one or both of two things: 1. It regulates their body temperature and/or 2. it decontaminates their legs.Â
